The FCT police command has apprehended three students from Bingham University in Abuja in connection with the death of a bolt driver named Obasi Okeke.
The incident occurred on June 5, when the deceased was found with a slit throat in Ngugu Close Area 11 Garki, Abuja. The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba, announced the arrest during a press briefing on July 20.
According to CP Haruna Garba, a thorough investigation was conducted to determine the perpetrators behind the heinous act, leading to the identification and arrest of three suspects: Obasieyene Inemesit Inem, Aaron Anthony, and Alasan Ayomide Olusegun. These suspects are Bingham University students, two of whom were already on suspension from the institution.
The investigation revealed that the deceased was a bolt driver who had been called by one of the suspects to transport them to Guzape Area of Abuja, where they went to purchase Indian hemp. Upon returning from Guzape, the suspects claimed they had no money to pay for the trip. In an attempt to deceive the driver, they showed him a fake debit alert on their phone. However, the deceased insisted that he had not received any payment. During the ensuing argument, one of the suspects attacked the driver with a knife, resulting in his tragic death. The suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and will be facing charges in court soon.
