Unknown assailants reportedly invaded Iwo Community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday night, resulting in the tragic death of a local chief and the abduction of three individuals. The attackers targeted a fueling station located in the Sabaja area of the town at approximately 9:00 PM. The manager and a security guard of the station, as well as a clergyman from the Christ Apostolic Church, were taken captive during the incident. Tragically, a stray bullet fired during the operation claimed the life of a respected community leader named Raphael Adewuyi.
The Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) in Isin local government, Engr. Tunde Fadipe, confirmed the distressing event. He disclosed that the manager of the petrol station, the security guard, and a pastor were abducted, while the stray bullet struck Chief Adewuyi inside his residence. Engr. Fadipe emphasized that the local council, in collaboration with the police and other security forces, has mobilized efforts to apprehend the gunmen and secure the release of the abducted individuals.
The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi, validated the incident, explaining that three individuals were kidnapped from the petrol station in Iwo community on Friday night. He further mentioned that one person was inadvertently hit by a stray bullet in their home. While law enforcement and local vigilante groups have been deployed to track down the abductors and rescue the captives, successful outcomes have yet to be achieved. Ajayi expressed confidence in the eventual safe recovery of the three abducted individuals.
