Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun has given an order for the withdrawal of Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel from their roles in escorting and guarding VIPs. In a speech delivered in Abuja on June 26, he emphasized the need to reassess the responsibilities of the PMF for better utilization. The protection of dignitaries will still be a priority, but it is crucial to reprioritize and address the growing security challenges faced by the entire nation. By relieving the PMF of VIP escort and guard duties, their focus and efforts can be redirected towards addressing critical security issues affecting communities. To ensure a smooth implementation of this strategy, a special committee led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Operations, has been established to evaluate and provide recommendations. The committee is expected to submit its report within two weeks, after which further information will be disclosed.
